Employee Spotlight: Edina — 28 Years of Getting It Right

July 13, 2026 - Sunoptic Surgical

Some people do their jobs well.

Others help raise the standard for everyone around them.

Edina is one of those people.

With more than 28 years at Sunoptic, she has become part of the company’s foundation, helping shape how people work, learn, and uphold quality.

It Started on the Production Floor

Edina didn’t come to Sunoptic expecting to help shape its culture of quality.

But 28 years later, that’s exactly what she has done.

Her Sunoptic story began on the production floor in the cleaning department. It was a starting position, but it became an important foundation. That early experience gave her a firsthand understanding of the work behind each product and the small details that can affect quality.

When she later moved into quality, that perspective stayed with her. She understood what production teams were responsible for, where challenges could happen, and why clear standards mattered.

It was a learning curve that helped shape the way she approached quality from the beginning.

What kept her wasn’t just the work. It was how she was treated early on.

“Leadership believed in me before I fully believed in myself.”

That stuck with her.

Edina speaks with genuine respect for Sunoptic’s President—not because of his title, but because of the way he leads. She respects his vision for the company, his belief in his people, and the generosity he has shown both inside and outside the organization.

Over the years, she has seen him show up for employees during some of life’s hardest moments. That kind of support leaves a mark.

And over time, that trust turned into something deeper than loyalty. It became responsibility—to keep improving, to contribute, and to protect the standards that had been trusted to her.

When the Work Became Personal

Ask Edina what changed her perspective, and she won’t talk about promotions or systems.

She’ll talk about responsibility.

“Every fiber optic cable, every component, every inspection represents someone’s health—someone’s loved one.”

That realization doesn’t fade with experience. If anything, it becomes more real.

It’s why details matter. It’s why consistency matters. And it’s why “good enough” isn’t part of the conversation.

A Team That Actually Means Something

Edina doesn’t describe Sunoptic as just a place she works.

“We don’t just work side by side—we look out for each other.”

Over the years, the team has gone through deadlines, challenges, and life outside of work together. That kind of shared experience builds something you can’t manufacture.

Trust. Respect. Accountability.

And it shows up in the work.

What 28 Years Teaches You About Quality

A lot has changed since Edina started.

Back then, much of the work was manual and paper-based. Today, Sunoptic’s ISO 13485 certified quality system supports stronger traceability, documentation, and process controls across the work.

But the biggest shift isn’t just technology. It’s how everything connects.

“Now it’s experience, strong systems, and a culture of quality working together.”

That combination is what drives consistency today.

What Her Day Looks Like

There’s no “typical” day, but there is a rhythm.

Edina starts by looking back at the previous day. Any issues, trends, or small signals that something might be off.

Because small issues are where bigger problems begin.

“It’s about catching things early—before they become something more.”

A big part of her role is also mentoring. Helping others understand not just what to do, but why it matters.

Quality means problem-solving. It means asking questions when something does not look right. It means

documentation, traceability, containment, root-cause review, corrective action

and communication across departments.

What People Outside Manufacturing Miss

From the outside, quality can look like a checklist.

Edina sees it differently.

“Quality isn’t just following procedures. It’s problem solving. It’s anticipating what could go wrong—and making sure it doesn’t.”

And most of that work happens quietly.

Behind the scenes. Without recognition. But critical all the same.

What “Quality” Really Means to Her

If you ask Edina to define quality, she keeps it simple:

“The light has to perform exactly as expected—consistent brightness, clear visibility.”

But she’ll also tell you that passing a spec isn’t the same as standing behind a product.

“Specifications tell you it passed. Confidence comes from how it was made.”

That difference matters, especially in an operating room.

The Part She’s Most Proud Of

It’s not a product.

It’s people.

Over the years, Edina has trained team members just starting out—people who were unsure, learning, figuring things out.

And she’s watched them grow into confident professionals.

“That’s one of the most rewarding parts—seeing them carry the same care and discipline forward.”

Because consistency doesn’t come from one person.

It comes from a team that understands what’s at stake.

A Culture Where You Can Speak Up

At Sunoptic, quality isn’t owned by one department.

It’s shared.

And Edina makes that clear with her team.

If something doesn’t look right, you stop.

“I’ve stopped production before. It’s the right thing to do.”

No hesitation. No second guessing.

Because fixing something early is always better than explaining it later.

What She Wants Surgeons to Know

Edina knows she’s not in the operating room.

But she also knows her work ends up there.

“There’s a lot that happens before a product ever gets used—production, quality, engineering, all working together.”

And over the years, every issue and every challenge has shaped how the team improves.

“We question. We verify. We improve.”

That’s the mindset behind every product.

Why She Trusts What Leaves the Building

After 28 years, Edina doesn’t rely on assumptions.

Her confidence comes from what she sees every day.

“I trust the product because I trust the people and the process behind it.”

That trust is earned. Over time. Through consistency.

Life Outside of Work

Outside of Sunoptic, Edina’s focus is simple: family.

She’s proud of her two children, both of whom work in the medical field, and she spends as much time as she can with her grandson.

“Mostly, we’re outside. At the beach. Just enjoying time together.”

It’s that balance that keeps everything grounded.

And in a personal way, it connects back to the work itself: caring about the people behind every patient, every procedure

and every product that leaves Sunoptic.

Getting It Right

At Sunoptic, quality isn’t just a standard.

It’s carried by people like Edina—who show up every day, pay attention to the details, and take pride in getting it right.

Decades of experience have given her confidence in the work. But it’s her care for people, her respect for the process

and her belief in doing things the right way that continue to leave a lasting mark.

Throughout her career at Sunoptic, Edina has helped build more than products.

She has helped build a culture of trust, accountability, and pride in workmanship.
